Answer: We have had no direct discussions with business representatives on this question. However, as part of our Growth Review, the Government are taking a number of steps to ensure that the labour market operates efficiently and fairly, and that it promotes economic growth and employment opportunities for people of all ages.Through the Department for Work and Pension's Age Positive initiative we are working with key business leaders to drive forward sustained improvements in the employment, training and retention of older workers. As the legislated Default Retirement Age is phased out in 2011, we are providing guidance to help employers manage their workforces without the use of compulsory retirement ages. We are also helping to develop and embed effective practices including flexible working and flexible retirement opportunities.
