UKIP Must Support Transparency in the European
Parliament
The European Parliament meets in Strasbourg
today for the first time since the recent European Elections and
the removal of the whip from UKIP MEP Ashley Mote.
It now emerges that fellow UKIP MEP Robert Kilroy-Silk
has expressed his unwillingness to declare to the public and his
electorate his financial interests. At a press conference this morning
Mr Kilroy-Silk was asked whether he would declare his financial
interests like all other MEPs.
Mr Kilroy-Silk said: "If I feel it is important,
I will. If I don't, I won't."
Jonathan Evans MEP, Leader of the Conservatives
in the European Parliament, said: "Robert Kilroy-Silk must
come clean on his financial interests and dealings, and clearly
demonstrate that there is no conflict of interest between his public
and private roles. UKIP rightly complain that the EU is not sufficiently
transparent and accountable yet Kilroy himself apparently sees no
need to be accountable and transparent to his own electorate."
