The electoral ward of Pontprennau and Old St Mellons forms the North Eastern boundary of the Cardiff North Constituency. It is made up of the newer suburb of Pontprennau, which has seen a large number of new homes built over the last decade, and Old St Melons in the south of the Ward. Mainly located south of the M4 motorway, the ward also includes some of the rural farm land to the North of the motorway.
The ward is almost fully residential but also includes the Cardiff Gate Business Park and retail outlets.
Pontprennau and Old St Mellons is represented on Cardiff City Council by two Welsh Conservative Councillors.
